In 2019, A. Lange & Söhne marked a quarter-century since the introduction of the Lange 1 with a ten-part series celebrating the different interpretations of its most recognisable watch family. Unveiled in July as the seventh chapter of the anniversary collection, the Grand Lange 1 ‘25th Anniversary’ was produced in an exceptionally limited edition of just 25 pieces.
The larger 41 mm. white gold case provides an elegant setting for the argenté-coloured solid silver dial, whose restrained appearance is enlivened by deep blue inscriptions, blued steel hands and matching blue numerals for the signature outsize date. This distinctive blue and silver aesthetic was conceived specifically for the anniversary series and unites all ten models of the collection. The commemorative details extend to the movement visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. Its intermediate-wheel cock is individually hand-engraved, with the recessed decoration filled in blue to mirror the dial. It also carries one of the defining signatures of the anniversary series: a relief engraving depicting the Lange outsize date displaying ‘25’.
Powering the watch is the manually wound calibre L095.1, specifically conceived to accommodate the larger proportions of the Grand Lange 1 while preserving the characteristic asymmetric architecture of the original model. Unlike the Lange 1, which employs two stacked mainsprings, the Grand Lange 1 uses a single, larger mainspring barrel. Despite this different construction, the movement delivers the same impressive power reserve of up to 72 hours.
