Lot Essay

The present reference 18049 is a particularly rare and luxurious interpretation of the celebrated Rolex Day-Date, distinguished most notably by its factory diamond-set bezel, denoted by the '4' in the reference number. Its spectacular pavé diamond-set dial is punctuated by two baguette-cut sapphire hour markers at 6 and 9 o'clock, while the bezel is further adorned with 44 diamonds. The combination of the pavé diamond-set dial and diamond-set bezel creates a dazzling composition, beautifully contrasted by the deep blue sapphires and perfectly illustrating the harmonious fusion of watchmaking and jewelry.

Gem-set Rolex watches represent some of the manufacture's most elaborate creations, combining its renowned technical precision with exceptional gem-setting craftsmanship. Within the Day-Date family in particular, such executions transformed the model's inherently prestigious character into something considerably more expressive and opulent.

Over the decades, Rolex has employed an extraordinary variety of precious stones, including diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires, to create an extensive range of highly individual dial and case configurations. Produced in comparatively small numbers, these elaborate gem-set variations today occupy a fascinating position within the history of the Day-Date and are increasingly prized by collectors for their rarity, craftsmanship and distinctive aesthetic.
