Introduced in 2018, reference 5740/1G marked an important milestone in the history of the Nautilus as the first Grand Complication to join the celebrated collection. Combining the unmistakable sporting architecture of Gérald Genta’s original design with the sophistication of a perpetual calendar, the reference represents one of Patek Philippe’s most accomplished interpretations of the Nautilus.
The watch is distinguished by its sunburst blue dial with the characteristic horizontal embossing of the collection. Three subsidiary dials elegantly display the day, date, month, leap-year cycle and 24-hour indication, together with the moon phases, integrating a wealth of information while maintaining the instantly recognisable character of the Nautilus. Crafted entirely in 18k white gold, the 40 mm. case retains remarkably elegant proportions despite the complexity of the movement within. Alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces emphasise the distinctive geometry of the bezel and case, extending seamlessly onto the integrated white gold bracelet with Nautilus fold-over clasp.
At its heart is Patek Philippe’s celebrated self-winding calibre 240 Q. Its ultra-thin construction, made possible in part by the use of a recessed micro-rotor, allows the reference 5740 to combine the mechanical sophistication of a perpetual calendar with the slender profile expected of the Nautilus. Bringing together one of the manufacture’s emblematic complications with its iconic luxury sports watch, reference 5740/1G occupies a particularly significant position within the modern Nautilus collection.
