Lot Essay

Unveiled at Watches & Wonders in April 2025, the Land-Dweller represents one of Rolex's most significant introductions in recent decades. Rather than an evolution of an existing collection, it is an entirely new model, combining subtle design cues inspired by the Oysterquartz of the 1970s with some of the most advanced mechanical innovations ever developed by the manufacture.

At the heart of the Land-Dweller beats the new calibre 7135, one of the most important technical developments in Rolex's modern history. It is the manufacture's first high-frequency mechanical movement, operating at 5 Hz. Entirely developed and manufactured in-house, it introduces the revolutionary Dynapulse escapement, an innovative system that transmits energy through rolling rather than sliding contact, significantly improving efficiency while reducing friction and long-term wear. For the first time in a non-Daytona Rolex sports model, the movement can be admired through a sapphire crystal display back. The present example is further distinguished by a discreet personalised engraving on the oscillating weight, bearing the name of its original owner.

One of the defining characteristics of the present reference 127336 is its striking ice-blue honeycomb dial, a colour reserved exclusively for Rolex's platinum models. Produced using state-of-the-art femtosecond laser technology, the intricately textured surface displays remarkable depth and brilliance, while the geometric motif is complemented by newly designed luminescent hour markers with ceramic inserts, further reinforcing the contemporary character of the model.

Completing the design is the newly developed Flat Jubilee bracelet, created exclusively for the Land-Dweller. Distinguished by its flat three-dimensional links and fully integrated construction, it offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Rolex's iconic Jubilee bracelet. Alternating polished and satin-brushed finishes accentuate its architectural lines, while an entirely new attachment system ensures exceptional robustness without compromising the comfort and refinement for which Rolex bracelets are renowned.
