Lot Essay

In 1993, Audemars Piguet unleashed the Royal Oak Offshore—a watch that took the already radical Royal Oak and pushed it into new territory of size, boldness, and mechanical ambition. Twenty-five years later, in 2018, the maison celebrated this landmark with a limited edition tourbillon chronograph that stands as one of the most technically accomplished and visually striking expressions of the Offshore lineage.

The present example, Ref. 26421ST.OO.A002CA.01, is one of only 50 pieces produced in stainless steel. The 45mm case is unmistakably Offshore: architectural, aggressive, and unapologetically contemporary. Black ceramic screw-locked crown and pushers, sandblasted titanium pushpiece guards, and a black rubber strap complete the sporty aesthetic .
The dial is the star. A semi-skeletonised display reveals the inner workings of the chronograph mechanism, anchored by a visible flying tourbillon cage at 9 o’clock. The openworked architecture exposes the movement’s depth and complexity—a rare sight in a sports chronograph.

The Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph 25th Anniversary is a collector’s piece in every sense: limited to 50 examples, mechanically exceptional, and aesthetically bold. For those who appreciate the Offshore at its most extreme, this is a compelling proposition.
