An incredibly rare sight, this reference 5130/13P-010 World Time is set with 44 baguette emeralds totaling 2.22 carats on the bezel. The home city is highlighted in black for London. One of the most exclusive and little known of all reference 5130, few collectors are aware of the existence of such exotic variants as this platinum and emerald model. It can only be described as spectacular, presented in superb condition and accompanied by the original Certificate of Origin and accessories.
In fact this 5130/13P-010 belongs to a vanishingly rare 2012 gem-set ‘Quadrilogy’, a magnificent off-catalogue special request set of four variations of reference 5130 World Time each with a different gemstone-set bezel featuring blue sapphire, diamond, emerald, and ruby.
To the best of our knowledge, only one complete set of four watches have ever appeared at auction. Thought to have been made as a Middle Eastern special order, each watch has a unique reference number indicating the colour of stones used on each timepiece. The set contains examples in white gold with sapphires; rose gold with rubies; a platinum with diamonds; and a second platinum example with emeralds. Each platinum watch also features a single .017 carat diamond set between the lugs.
The present watch offers collectors perhaps the only opportunity to obtain the single emerald-set watch from an original complete set of four. To the best of our knowledge this stunning and richly jewelled world timer is the only known individual emerald-set reference 5130/13P-010 to be offered at auction so far.
Ref. 5130 was launched in 2006 replacing ref. 5110, in production since 2000. Its classic Calatrava style features a larger diameter of 39.5 mm. as opposed to the 37 mm. of its predecessor. The new size allowed broadening the width of the exterior rotating disc showing the 24 time zones, thus rendering the names of the 24 world cities even more legible.
Much inspired by the celebrated reference 2523, Patek Philippe's World Time watch introduced in the 1950s, the dial is decorated with a new guilloché sunburst pattern, the distinctive hour markers give the watch a dynamic, contemporary look. The ring-shaped hour hand is also reminiscent of the firm's historic World Time watches, symbolizing the globe and reserved exclusively for this type of timepieces.
