Lot Essay

Renowned actress Michelle Yeoh has been deeply involved with the Institut du Cerveau in Paris since its inception, serving as its Godmother (marraine) and Ambassador since 2008.

Her multi-decade connection to the premier Paris-based neurological research centre is rooted in both philanthropic dedication and her relationship with husband Jean Todt, who co-founded the institute in 2003. The foundational stone of the institute's physical facility at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris was personally laid by Michelle in 2008.

Christie’s is both deeply honoured and delighted to offer this scintillating and magnificent limited edition Audemars Piguet Lady Royal Oak Leaves Wristwatch. Donated by Michelle Yeoh in support of the Paris Institut du Cerveau (ICM), 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this watch will contribute to the important ongoing work of the Institut in its research into neurological and neuro-degenerative diseases.

This AP high-jewellery masterpiece, one of a limited edition of only 100 pieces worldwide, was created in an exclusive collaboration with acclaimed actress and producer Michelle Yeoh in 2005. Named ‘Lady Royal Oak Leaves’ with reference number 67608BC, it represents an exquisite fusion of traditional Swiss embroidery, fine gem-setting, and iconic luxury sports watch architecture. The watch elevates the classic octagonal Royal Oak silhouette into a canvas of floral motifs, heavily adorned with premium precious stones.

Cased in solid 18k white gold, the hand-engraved case and bezel are set with 415 brilliant-cut diamonds (approximately 2.00 carats) and 258 to 260 brilliant-cut blue sapphires. The lustrous dial is made of natural iridescent mother of pearl set with diamonds and sapphires, its floral design forming an integral concept with the case. The caseback is stamped with the special ‘Lady Royal Oak – Oak Leaves Collection’ logo and engraved with a facsimile of Michelle Yeoh's signature.
Completing this staggeringly beautiful timepiece is its iridescent light blue satin strap. In order to bring this exceptional artisan strap to life, Audemars Piguet collaborated directly with historic master embroiderers from St. Gallen, Switzerland, to create an elaborate, hand-embroidered floral design tracing along the fabric. The strap secures via an 18-carat white gold double-blade folding deployment clasp, which is also set with brilliant-cut diamonds.

With Michelle Yeoh’s generous donation of this wonderful timepiece to Institut du Cerveau in Paris, it is hoped that an equally generous sum will be raised for this most worthy of causes.

PARIS INSTITUT DU CERVEAU (ICM)
Created in 2010, the Paris Institut du Cerveau is a scientific and medical research centre of excellence dedicated to the study of the brain and the discovery of new treatments for diseases of the nervous system. Its innovative model brings together patients, doctors, researchers and entrepreneurs with a common goal: to transform fundamental discoveries into therapeutic solutions through a translational and interdisciplinary approach. Located in Paris in the heart of the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital – the largest neurology centre in Europe – the Paris Brain Institute brings together more than 1000 international experts in 29 research teams, 12 cutting-edge technological platforms, an artificial intelligence and data science centre, a clinical investigation centre, a training organization and an innovation centre including a start-up studio and a living lab. It is based on the association of a joint research unit (CNRS, Inserm and Sorbonne University) and a private foundation recognized as being of public utility, the ICM Foundation, in partnership with the AP-HP. The ecosystem created and developed by the Paris Brain Institute aims to implement multidisciplinary and multi-scale approaches to generate actionable knowledge on brain functions at all ages of life. The active participation of patients in the innovation process is privileged. The full integration of the Paris Brain Institute into the hospital, the constant back and forth from the patient's bedside to the laboratory and access to unique patient cohorts are key assets that drive innovation.
