Lot Essay

This is a rare example of a caster from Strasbourg. The style is typical for the period where the new Régence style, as defined by Nicolas Delaunay, was spreading across France to become one of patrons' favourite styles. Stylistically they relate to the early period with the well defined baluster-shape and the antique medallions.

Another comparable example with town mark but without maker's mark, was sold in Drouot, Paris, 13 October 2022, lot 75.

For another lot by this maker see lot 88.
