The same arms, impaling those of Hare, appear on a shield on the ceiling of the North Chapel of Stow Bardolph Church, Norfolk, as recorded in E. Farrer, The Church Heraldry of Norfolk, Norwich, 1989, part v, vol. II, p. 198. Sir John Sydenham, 1st Bt (d.1643). married Anne Hare, daughter of Sir John Hare of Stow Bardolph, Norfolk. Their son, Sir John Sydenham, 2nd Bt. (1643-1696) had a son, Sir Philip Sydenham, 3rd Baronet (1676-1739), to whom this porringer may have been a gift, suggested by the absence of a baronet's badge in the arms. A prominent member of the Dorset branch of the family was the physician Thomas Sydenham (1624-1689), sometimes described as the father of English medicine, author of Observationes Medicae published in 1676.
