An oak refectory table
by Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson, c.1940, the rectangular azded top on carved baluster uprights, on outswept feet joined by a square stretcher, with carved mouse signature -- 78in. (198cm.) wide; and a postcard, Robert Thompson, Ecclesiastical Contractor, postmarked 1st January 1940, addressed to the vendor at Ramillies Barracks, Aldershot, with typed message: I thank you for your letter of Dec. 28. Your dining table is made, and the rest of your furniture is progressing, and I will let you know when it is completed, for you to make the necessary arrangements

From 1942 John Bruce Lockhart served as a senior Intelligence Office for the SIS (Secret Intelligence Servie, colloquially known as MI6), and was selectd to succeed Kim Philby as the SIS representative in Washington from 1951-53. He returned to a career in education in 1965.
