Lot Essay

The mercenary Bartolommeo Colleoni of Bergamoleft funds in his will for an equestrian monument to himself. The original in the Campo SS. Givanni e Paolo, Venice was modelled by Verrochio in 1483 and finally cast after the artists death by Alessandro Leopardi in 1496.
