A South Italian pottery amphora, with tall foot and high narrow neck with flared mouth, twin handles, the body decorated with a female head in profile on either side, each wearing a necklace, a radiate diadem, and their hair tied back in a sakkos, elaborate palmettes between, rays around the shoulder with triangles and stylized palmettes above, details applied in yellow and white, foot and rim repaired; another similar, rim and upper part of one handle missing, handle and foot repaired -- 15¼in. (38.7cm.) and 13½in. (34.3cm.) high respectively, both late 4th Century B.C.
