spot-hammered Old English pattern, the handle decorated with a crab and a bullrush and engraved with a monogram, in original satin-lined case, the interior enhanced with a Paisley print and with yellow and brown braid, the cover with retailer's name and address "Brown & Craig, 1428 Chestnut St., Philadelphia", William Wilson & Son, Philadelphia probably circa 1885.

Lot Essay

Patent office records show the registration of two trademarks by William Wilson & Son of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1883. The firm had gone out of business before 1909.
