Lot Essay

H.M.S. Termagant was a Destroyer of the 'Talisman' class along with Talisman, Trident and Turbulent (sunk in Jutland). These ships were laid down for the Turkish Navy in 1914 and taken over by the Royal Navy on the out break of war. They were large and heavily armed and appeared similar to the Medea' Class (ex Greek) but differed in detail. Originally named Napier, Narborough, Offa and Ogre, they were renamed before launching.
Talisman was completed in 1916, at 1,100 tons and 25,000hp she managed 32 knotts with 5-4in. Q.F. guns and 4-21in. torpedo tubes she was 300ft long. Talisman served in the 9th flotilla (Grand Fleet) 1916-17 and took part in the Battle of Jutland. She further served in the D.F. (Dover Patrol) 1917-18, and was finally sold for breaking up in 1921.
