Lot Essay
An early album with later additions, possibly compiled by someone living at Bitterne Lodge, near Southampton, of which there are several amateur photographs and one sketch. One image, dated 1909, shows a Maypole dance in the gardens. With commercial and amateur photographs and sketches in Yorkshire, Bournemouth, Hertfordshire and Middlesex (including a photograph and a sketch of Bushey Grange and a portrait of a lady on horseback at Pinner Park). Other photographs include two small portraits of dogs, two pairs of portraits of Prince Edward and Princess Alexandra, another of them posed together, one of Prince Louis and Princess Alice, three views at Windsor, four shipping studies and seven views in and around St. John's Antigua. Watercolours include two detailed flower studies dated 1827 and signed Hannah Owston and Brigg.
