Lot Essay

Tenzing (1914-86) was a Sherpa mountaineer who, with Sir Edmund Hillary, was the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953.

Lotte Meitner-Graf was born in Austria and worked as a freelance photographer in Vienna until 1938 when the war forced her to seek asylum in London. In London she worked primarily as a portrait photographer and opened a studio in the early 1950s.
