AN EAST INDIAN IVORY JOHN COMPANY TYPE CLIVE OF INDIA CHESS SET, probably second quarter 19th century
The bases to the native side stained red, the kings as maharajas in howdahs carried by elephants, bishops as warriors astride camels, knights equestrian, rooks as onion domed turrets, pawns as John Company soldiers and native warriors with baynonet fixed rifles and spears respectively, some damages and losses
