DAVIES, B. R. London 1843, London: Chapman & Hall for the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, Nov. 1st 1843, hand-coloured engraved map showing the tunnel, mounted on linen, 16 x 26in., folding into contemporary blue straight-grained morocco wallet with the word "London" stamped in gilt, ASSOCIATION COPY, front pastedown with pencil inscription reading: "I. Brunel to M. I. K. Brunel November 4th 1845, 18 Duke St., Westminster, London" (inscription faded, wallet worn at extremities).
Provenance
A gift from Isambard Brunel, when about 8 years old, to his grandfather, Marc Isambard Brunel with the "K" added in youthful error. This must have been one of the first, if not the first, London map to show the Thames tunnel.
