Eileen Soper was the daughter of the well-known illustrator George Soper under whom she studied. It was her father's rambling garden in Herfordshire where she drew her inspiration. She lived and worked with her sister Eva up until her death in 1990. In 1921 she became the youngest person ever to have exhibited at the Royal Academy at the early age of fifteen. This established her fame as a children's book illustrator, most famously for Enid Blyton. The following lots illustrate a few examples of her enchanting drawings of children that typify her work of this period.
