Lot Essay

The drawings were made by an artist travelling in Italy around 1827, possibly by the Swiss Jean-Léonard Lugardon who was in Italy at that time. A few of the tree studies are, as indicated by the inscription, by Pierre-Luc-Charles Cicéri (1782-1868) who first exhibited at the Salon in the same year as this album was executed.
