A 19th-Century lacquered-brass "Spectroscope a Vision Directe"
by U.G. Hofmann a Paris, with rack and pinion adjustment to the eyepiece, fitted with a card shade, adjustable slit and prism, raised on a stand, the pillar adjustable for vertical and horizontal motion, on painted iron tripod stand, the cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, with the associated bull's-eye condenser, the condenser mounting signed U.G. Hofmann and dated 1870, all contained in the original fitted pine carrying case with swing handles -- 16.1/2in. (42cm.) wide
