A famille rose ewer and octagonal basin, the pear shaped ewer with slightly domed hinged cover, loop handle and slightly spreading foot, the deep basin with widely flaring rim and short foot, both painted and gilt with peonies and prunus issuing from rockwork within bands of censers, albums, vases and further precious objects below floral cartouches on a matt black ground reserved with scrolling chrysanthemum flowerheads and leaves -- the ewer 8¾in. (22cm.) high, metal mounts, the basin 12¾in. (32.5cm.) wide, 18th Century, (the ewer rivetted, cracked and chipped, basin cracked and chipped, enamels rubbed.)
