A fan, the black gauze leaf painted with a nymph with Cupid blindfolded, with blacks lace reserves and simulated tortoiseshell sticks - 14in. (36cm.), circa 1889 - in Tiffany & Co.box stamped with monogram C.C.B.
Provenance
Mrs Claude Barnes of Louisville, Kentucky. She married on 20th November 1889 and died in 1946. Sold with a torn letter dated December 10th 1920 stating that "the enclosed fan was done in London by England's most famous miniature and Fan Artist Mr. Francis Houghton. It is one of four that were done especially for Tiffany and all were bought by Mr. Morehead of Cincinnati who had a collection for Mrs. Morehead - it has been exhibited at the Cin...[cinati] Art Museum and has been written up in the Cin...Enquirer. ...The fan cost $200 originally at Tiffany's
