A large pair of Japanese polychrome tapering oviform vases with foliate rims and fruiting vine pierced handles, painted with panels of bijin on terraces, the reverse panels with further figures on riverbanks among pine before Mount Fuji, all below ho-o in flight and hanging geometric motifs, on grounds of flowering chrysanthemums issuing from rockwork, the rims with broken flowerheads motifs -- 33½in. (85cm) high.
