Lot Essay

The suite of plates of Moreau's engraved designs illustrating the great Kehl edition of Voltaire's works. Moreau published it himself, adding an engraved title and dedication (not present here) and extra engraved portraits. This series of plates is one of his masterpieces, and his "most ambitious project during the 1780's" (Ray). A large copy preserving many deckle edges.
