Lot Essay

Possibly one of only three known examples of the self-changing Symphonion to survive, this example was discovered in Jakarta in the 1970s and, after extensive damage in transit via Hong Kong, was shipped to London and restored by Keith Harding. Only the door survived from the original cabinet, which had to be rebuilt on the basis of contemporary catalogue illustrations.
