the arched case with swag-hung urn surmount and bacchic masks to the sides, mounted to front and sides with painted porcelain panels musical trophies and a couple in a landscape, with berried laurel gallery above an inverted breakfront base with toupie feet, the porcelain dial with individual Roman chapters with jewelled mounts between, Cupid painted to the centre, the twin barrel movement with strike on bell (lacking), stamped for JAPY FRERES on the backplate -- 14½in. (37cm.) high; with giltwood plinth; and an associated pair of gilt-bronze candlesticks, the stems modelled with entwined amorini, on swirling bases -- 10¼in. (26cm.) high; French, last quarter 19th century
