the case with cushion top carved overall with foliate scrolls and grotesque masks, on inverted breakfront base, the dial with foliate spandrels and silvered Arabic chapter ring inscribed NEWCASTLE ON TYNE, with matted centre, the arch with subsidiary chime/silent and slow/fast rings, the German triple barrel movement with quarter chimes on four gongs and hour strike on further gong, stamped on the backplate for JUNGHANS, early 20th century -- 19¼in.
