An exhibition standard 50':1" scale waterline display model of the White Star Line passenger/cargo ship S.S. 'Ceramic'
built by E.J. Walpole with masts, derricks and rigging, anchors, winches, bollards, hatches, deck winches, deck rails, companionways, superstructure with passenger accommodation and wheelhouse with open bridge over, ventilators, deck and engine room lights, eighteen lifeboats in davits, two with bottom boards, thwarts and oars and many other details, finished in White Star livery and mounted on a painted moulded seascape with a gaff rigged fishing boat in the foreground. Glazed case -- 5 x 19¼in. (12.7 x 48.8cm.)

Lot Essay

This model was awarded Bronze Medal M.E. Exhibition London 1996

S.S. Ceramic was built 1913 for the White Star Line. She was taken over by Shaw Savill and Albion in 1934 and was torpedoed by U515 23 November 1942 off the Azores.
