Bully, black and white velvet covered with white felt face panel, brown and black glass eyes, painted detailed facial features, horse hair collar ruff, original bell and swing tag, button in ear with remains of red label, seated on bright orange tipped cream mohair pin-cushion --5in. The French Bulldog, darling of Parisian Salons in the mid 1920s, served as a model for Steiff's 'Bully'.
'Bully' was registered as a design, and a trademark, in 1927. Naturally he was soon copied by other manufacturers and Steiff sought legal action against this.
