Lot Essay

The gilt monogram on the central part of the porcelain insert incorporates the initials C.T., which stands for Carl Theodor, Elector of Palatinate (1742-1799), (Palatinate is a name which was generally given to any district formerly ruled by count Palatine, but in this case refers to a district of Germany, a province of the Republic of Bavaria lying to the west of the Rhine). The Frankenthal porcelain factory was located in the town of Frankenthal from 1755-1795 approximately 6 miles from Schoss Oggersheim ; it was moved to Grünstadt in 1795.
