signed POWELL & LEALAND, 170 Euston Road, LONDON. 1892, the eyepiece engraved Powell & Lealand London No. 5, the body-tube located on an arm incorporating micrometer fine adjustment, with single Powell & Lealand ¼ Aprochromatic N.A.O.95 objective, with micrometer adjustment, additionally engraved Powell & Lealand No. 23, with rack and pinion focusing, the massive body limb with axis and silver circuit stage with finely engraved circle divided 0-180 (twice) mechanical slide stage with sprung adjustment and fine vernier fore and aft motion scales, with sub-stage condenser incorporating an iris diaphragm, centring screws, the sub-stage adjusted in rotation by rack and pinion, the lower limb with plano-concave mirror mounted on an articulated arm, on cast tripod stand, the plinth shaped feet incorporating cork pad inserts, in mahogany case with swing carrying handle -- 22in. (56cm.) high
