THE PROPERTY OF A GENTLEMAN Lots 222-233, and 259-260 were formerly in the collection of Constantine Alexander Ionides (1833-1900), a distinguished Nineteenth Century connoisseur and member of the Greek community in London. The above mentioned lots passed by descent to the present owner.
A GROUP OF ROMAN GLASS UNGUENTARIA, including one with squat conical body and tall cylindrical neck, everted rim, iridescence on the interior -- 7 3/8in. (18.7cm.) high, another of pale glass, with squat rounded body and wide cylindrical neck -- 3½in. (9cm.) high, a pale olive glass jar, the rounded body with wide flaring neck, inward-folded rim -- 3 5/8in. (9.2cm.) high, all 2nd-3rd Century A.D.; and a yellow glass deep pillar-moulded bowl, the exterior with broad vertical ribs, multicoloured iridescence, damaged with some repair, mounted with domed glass cover -- 3in. (7.6cm.) high, 1st Century A.D. (8)
