A Roman gold boss bracelet
1st Century A.D.
Composed of nine pairs of hollow sheet gold hemispheres, each pair joined by a beaded gold wire collar, the whole linked by gold wire loops, each terminal ornamented with an ivy leaf flanked by two rosettes, with original 'hinge' fastener intact, remains of sulphur infill in eleven of the bosses

Lot Essay

For an identical bracelet, cf. J. Ward-Perkins and A. Claridge, Pompeii AD79, Royal Academy of Arts, London, 1976, no. 62 found in a villa at Boscoreale in 1908 (Musée de Mariemont, inv. B.357) "These armlets appeared suddenly in the first century AD, with earrings to match, and remained very popular until the second century. At least seven examples are known from Pompeii." Also, J.
