The same ticket is reproduced as the frontispiece to Arlott and Cardus's The Noblest Game. William Lambert (1779-1851) "was regarded as one of the best all-round cricketers of his day and was an excellent single-wicket player. He was the first batsman to hit a century in both innings of an important match, scoring 107 and 157 for Sussex v. Epsom at Lord's in 1817 " (Who's Who of Cricketers pp. 591-92). The 1817 handbill for the game between 22 of Nottingham and 11 of All England (lot 118 in this catalogue) includes Lambert's name in the All England team.
