England won the Ashes for the first time since 1912 by winning the final match; the other matches were drawn. Macartney finished the tour with a Test average of 94.60, the top average of either batting side. But fortune was more fickle to Grimmett and Mailey whose bowling averages were 31.84 and 42.28.
