A George III ebony-veneered and gilt-bronze mounted quarter-striking bracket clock, circa 1760
The brass-lined case with brass handle to inverted bell top, caryatid mounts trailing flowers to each chamfered angle, double sound frets to the sides (replaced), on substantial stepped rectangular brass block feet, the dial with mask and foliate spandrels to the silvered chapter ring, matted centre with date and mock pendulum apertures, signed on a silvered plaque Will. Threlkeld London, original cut steel hands (minute lacking), with pendulum rise and fall regulation to the arch, strike/silent to right side, the substantial triple wire fusee movement with verge escapement, quarter chiming on a nest of six bells and with hour strike on further bell, with repeat signature to the elaborately engraved backplate -- 19½in. (49.5cm.) high
