[THE GREAT EASTERN] HOWLETT, Robert (photographer). A collection of 12 albumen prints of the "Great Eastern" under construction at John Scott Russell's yard in Millwall, November-December 1857, some dated in the negative (affected by extensive fading), average size 265 x 360mm. (10½ x 14in.), showing:
1. A boy on the fore deck with group of workmen behind (crease marks)
2. Midship view of a single funnel held in place by chains with paddle wheels behind, November 2
3. The bow with surrounding scaffolding and platforms, November 2
4. Full length view of the starboard side on the Thames foreshore, two funnels erected, November 17 (short tear at foot)
