Many British ships were stationed off the northern coast of Spain to supply and support Wellington's armies during the final phase of the
Peninsular War in 1813-14. H.M.S. Andromache, a 36-gun frigate commanded by Captain George Tobin, was amongst them and, prior to 1814, had already distinguished herself at the capture of the great fortress of San Sebastian on 8th September the previous year.
