Lot Essay

With a handwritten note attached to the back: "This was executed by Susan Springolle. She was Nurse to Princess Adelaide of Cambridge, who after became the Duchess of Teck, her daughter became Queen Mary. This was purchased by the late Owner at a Sale in Devon about 1919-1920 for 5.5.0 with the above History. The School of Needlework say this is quite unique having the Picture after Cypriani."[sic]
