The session in which this image was created is described in the book Halsman at Work by his wife Yvonne. '...His plan was to project one of his portraits of Dali onto a pan of milk...he focused the image onto the milk...At three, the assistant threw three pebbles into the pan and Philippe released the shutter...' He made several shots like this.
