A PAESTAN RED-FIGURE BELL-KRATER ATTRIBUTED TO PYTHON
CIRCA 350-340 B.C.
Side A: Dionysos striding to his left while looking back over his shoulder, holding a taenia in his right hand above which is a vertical row of dots, a thyrsos in his left hand, carrying an himation with spotted border over his arm, a fillet tied in his long curly hair, with faded white dots across his chest and left thigh
Side B: a naked satyr with left foot resting on a scrolling plant, holding a phiale and taenia in his left hand over an altar, a thyrsos propped diagonally against the altar and over his left shoulder, wearing dotted white arm and wrist bands, with white dots across his chest and left thigh
A scrolling frieze below and laurels above, with palmettes under the handles, added white dots, phiale and taeniae now faded, minor chips to rim
