A rare 19th-Century 5 1/8-inch (13cm.) brass-bodied astronomical telescope,
signed SECRETAN A PARIS, the 73½in. (186.5cm.) long body-tube with rack and pinion focusing, object glass dust cap, star-finder with azimuth and elevation fine adjustment, the one sliding draw-tube with two supplementary eyepiece extension tubes, both signed SECRETAN PARIS, with dust slides, one stamped 60 power the other 85 power, with an accessory case containing additional eyepieces, each signed, and engraved 60., 100., 160., 300., 350., and two additional shaded eyepieces, with the detachable object glass, contained in a fitted mahogany case -- 14½in. (36.8cm.) wide (with key)., the telescope body-tube mounted on twin wood supports with leather straps, raised on a massive cruciform braced African hardwood tripod stand, adjustable by gear and chain drive for elevation and azimuth, with brass hinges, having quick release pins, and constructed so as to fold for storage, clamped by a series of brass butterfly-wing nuts, raised on three iron castors with brass mounts, the stand as illustrated with telescope -- 78in. (198cm.) high, overall width 48in. (122cm.), the body tube with separate carrying case -- 77in. (195.5cm.) long
