The Property of a Gentleman, lately deceased The direct descendant of Richard Monckton Milnes, First Baron Houghton (1809-1885) and Sir Robert Offley Ashburton Milnes-Crewe, K. G. (1858-1945) second Baron Houghton and, later Earl and Marquis of Crewe The gilt-stamped corn sheaf crest placed centrally on many bindings indicates the probable first ownership of Richard Monckton Milnes; the later ownership of Robert, second Baron Houghton, Earl and later Marquis of Crewe, also a recognised bibliophile, is indicated by his armorial bookplate.
