The frame was probably made in about 1900 for a print of Burne-Jones's gouache painting The Hespirides. The label to the reverse of the frame belongs to Henry Graves and Company Limited. The company no longer exists but was, at the turn of the century, a well known and respected firm of printmakers and framers working in Birmingham. Graves is known to have published prints of The Hespirides in 1901; it is tempting therefore to attribute not only the lost print but also the frame itself to Graves.
