Lot Essay

A comparable cabinet by Hawthorne & Sheble is illustrated in The Talking Machine: An Illustrated Compendium, No. 3-83.

A wood paddle-shaped device with four pegs is included with the lot. Its construction suggests that it might have been used for transporting cylinders across short distances, such as across a room, when a phonograph was being used away from its record library.
