A Rare German Left-Hand Mitten Gauntlet
Circa 1560
For the Italian tilt, of bright steel, with elbow-length cuff made of a single plate bent round and riveted, and fitting into a similarly constructed defence for the whole hand as far as the knuckles, shaped to the base of the thumb where it carries two articulated thumb-plates, two articulated plates covering the fingers, boxed and with a pronounced flange on the outer sides, the outer edges decorated with narrow arched chamfers, with brass-covered iron lining-rivets throughout, and painted inside the cuff with an old inventory number
