An Italian Tilt-Helmet
Late 16th Century
Of bright steel comprising one-piece skull with prominent roped comb, pierced with two pairs of holes for lining points and encircled by a row of iron lining-rivets, steel plume-holder at the rear, prow-shaped visor and upper-bevor secured to each other by a spring-catch with leather-thong release, the former pierced for the attachment of a brow-reinforce, the latter pierced with a circle of small holes on the left and with a ventilation trap-door, with a similar spring-catch on the right, lower-bevor shaped to the chin, and fitted with a pivoted support for the open visor, and press-button catches securing it to the skull and the closed upper-bevor, the edges of the face-opening turned, roped and partly recessed, the lower edge formed as a hollow roped flange designed to turn on a gorget

The helmet bears signs of sword cuts from its working life
