Formed as two almond-shaped ivory plaques carved to the borders with flowering peony branches connected by nineteen tortoiseshell rods, two of which slide upward to form the opening and are flanked to either side with relief carved bat terminals, the door flanked by rotating knobs for attachment to a birdcage--3 1/4in. (8.2cm.) high
