A GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF A BODHISATTVA
MING DYNASTY

Cast seated in dhyanasana with hands held in vitarkamudra, the left holding a bell, the right hand a lotus stem, dressed in finely cast loose robes open at the chest exposing a jewelled pectoral, the cuffs and borders of the garment incised with floral scrolls, his broad face with downcast eyes retaining extensive traces of pigment, below a tiered crown incorporating an Amitabha Buddha and between knotted tresses and elongated ear lobes suspending ornate pendent earrings (one finger and flower head missing)--20 1/4in. (51.5cm.) high
